This comes from a producer that, among others is leading the resurgence of wine from the Cahors region. In the days before phylloxera there was 65000 hectares of land around Cahors and along the banks of the Lot under vine that was only 4 - 5000 less than Bordeaux. However this dwindled away over the years until only a few producers were seriously making wine but thanks to the efforts of people like brothers Verhaeghe at Château le Cèdre the quality has vastly improved and the appellation is at the forefront of modern winemaking in France. This is made with the intention to be drunk relatively young. It maintains the dark colour which is the defining characteristic of this area. It is often called Black Wine. There are lively aromas of black fruit and they are there on the palate as well. Then thanks to the soft tannins the finish is smooth and balanced. There are numerous dishes that will go well with this wine but the obvious partnership would be duck roasted and served with a fruity sauce.
