Fié Gris now what's that? A good question and the exact reason why the world of wine is so fascinating. After many years of experience there is still something new to discover. Sometimes could Sauvignon Rosé because of the colour of the skin (a bit like gewuztraminer to look at), this variety was well represented in the Loire Valley before the blight of phylloxera but has more or less disappeared in favour of Sauvignon Blanc its closest cousin. However Eric Chevalier saved a small plot from being ripped up in order to explore the possibilities of this surprising grape variety. The wine is really aromatic, flowery and spicy, it is perfectly balanced with notes of white fruit and citrus. This is a really characterful wine that demonstrated the close relationship between fruit and terroir so particular to the Pays de Retz. With the many awards it has won around the world at various wine fairs this will become a much sought after wine.
