What can you say, where to begin? This is the only wine country superpower.

There are some pretenders who are fast catching up with the French but without the history, the prestige and the sheer determination of every inhabitant to remain number one it will be a long, long time before the decline of the French vinous empire.

In terms of investment there is only one appellation in the world - Bordeaux, there are the ancient vineyards of Burgundy and the noble wines of the Loire Valley.

There is hardly a corner of the hexagon that doesn't produce wine and who knows with climate change there may soon be a Cuvée Pas de Calais.
