It could be argued that after Bordeaux, Hawkes Bay is the best region in the world for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.  Close to the Pacific Ocean and with the copious sunshine the temperature is kept at an ideal 20°C in January.  The soil, sandy loam on top of gravel and an alluvial bed is well drained.  Notes of plum are on the palate, the tannins are smooth and gentle, this is a real pleasure to drink.
